Here at Pueblo County High School, our Speech and Debate team strives for excellence in all things. No matter your skillset, there is an opportunity for you to shine on our team.

Every year, our team members qualify for the CHSAA State Tournament and the NSDA National Tournament. We have excellent coaches who can help you take your abilities to the next level.

Speech and Debate Events Include:

  1. Humorous Interpretation

  4. Original Oratory

  5. Informative Speaking

  6. Poetry

  7. Program Oral Interpretation (POI)

  8. Lincoln Douglas Debate

  9. Extemporaneous Speaking (National and International Topics)

  10. Public Forum Debate

  11. Congressional Debate

Scholarship

Speech and Debate is a high school activity that will broaden your horizons and make you an excellent candidate for selective colleges, scholarships, and careers. Learning to commit to a goal, prepare research, memorize a script, and perform in front of a judge are all skills that translate well into any career path.

Perks of Joining Speech and Debate

  1. Gain membership in one of the oldest and most respected honor societies.

  2. Earn local, state, and national recognition for competitive success, academic excellence, and service activities.

  3. Compete to attend National and State Tournaments.

  4. Join a community where student voices are given a platform to be heard and celebrated.

  5. Speech and Debate participants are eligible to earn a portion of the $150,000 in college scholarships we give annually.

  6. Join the ranks of other high achieving Speech and Debate competitors including: Oprah Winfrey, Stephen Colbert, Chadwick Boseman, Zac Efron, Idina Menzel, Brad Pitt, Supreme Court Judge Sonia Sotomayor, and US Senator Elizabeth Warren.

Collaboration

Speech and Debate is a place where you not only grow academically, but socially and emotionally! Our team is full of a diverse group of students from varying backgrounds and a range of beliefs. Though you may compete individually, we are first and foremost a TEAM. We believe in one another. We support one another. We love one another.

Joining Speech and Debate will expand your circle and introduce you to new friends. From long bus rides to fun daily activities, every Speech and Debate tournament is an adventure. We always have fun, and no matter the results, you will always go home with a smile on your face due to the amazing people in our crew.
