Clue originally created as a board game, that was devised by Anthony E. Pratt from Birmingham, England at a time that it was considered to be a great diversion to the WWII air raid bombings in the U.K. It eventually was licensed in the U.S. by Parker Brothers and became a phenomenon.
I remember playing it endlessly with my brothers as a child and loving the mystery of “who-dunn-it?” Clue was made into a classic comedy thriller in 1985 with a cast of almost perfect comedians, with the likes of the great Tim Curry, Madeline Khan, Lesley Ann Warren, Eileen Brennan and so many more. I still watch it at least twice a year to observe the brilliance of these wonderful actors.
The decision to open our second season at TAA with Clue was based on the desire to study this kind of comedy with our young actors. Comedy is a tough genre and these student actors have worked very hard to find the jokes and give you an exceptional evening of entertainment.
I must acknowledge the extraordinary work of my partner in crime (no pun intended), Joey Andenucio, drama teacher, for the stunning costume design and hand built creation of Mrs. Peacock’s dress. He is a gifted artist and his technical theatre class is responsible for the lights, sound, painting and costume work to make the show so beautiful to look at.
Please sit back, feel the thrill, shrill at the excitement and enjoy the show!
